Progress

Well, we've made a lot of progress on the mural in the past few weeks. The cartoon was perforated, put up and pounced in two sessions! The entire outline of the north wall is finished and I've been able to finish quite a bit of the monochrome underpainting.

Next, in preparation for the south wall, we'd like to organize an outing for a outdoor photoshoot. We'll need a lot of bodies to populate the photos that will serve as reference for the Tongva ceremonia.

Next week, if all the underpainting is finished, we'll move on to mixing paints in preparation for putting color on the wall.

Life Before Columbus Day

Well, the cartoon is just about done and I think that next week we'll be taking it down and preparing it for transfer! It looks wonderful so far.

I came across this event, Life Before Columbus Day while researching... here's the link. It takes place in about a month, sounds interesting.

Mural Progress

Yesterday we had a productive day putting up another section of the cartoon. Lots of hard work by everyone meant we have on one small section left to cover!
Up until now, we've been meeting on Thursdays after school. From now on, our schedule will change and we'll be meeting on Tuesdays instead. This might give us time to work for a few extra hours on the mural on PDT when we get out early. Additionally, I'll be working on Thursdays after school when need be to speed up the progress.
Leonna took some wonderful photos yesteray and I'll post them on the website soon.
Lastly, for the next two meetings, I'll be unable to attend for reasons you all already know! This coming Tuesday, the goal will be to put up the last part of the cartoon. After I return, we'll begin the drawing process...

UPDATES

OK, so half the cartoon is up, it took about two hours to put up, so I imagine we'll be putting the other half up in the same amount of time.
I updated the blog's look and the calendar, which I embedded at the bottom of the blog--this way, you can all know when we're meeting and what we're going to do. This is the schedule we're going to stay with, so if it's on the calendar, that's what's happening!
Lastly, after a long wait, I've got around to making one photo gallery on the website--this one documents us measuring the wall. LINK

Where we are now

I hear that the day of service went beautifully and that the grime is off the walls! A job well done! Things are moving nicely. Meanwhile, me and Mr. Flores have the order ready to go for the first batch of supplies and the display cases are on their way down.
What we need this week is to measure the walls as accurately as we can, to create a diagram to overlay the sketch. We need to know the exact measurements of the walls as well as the sizes and distances between the phone booths, pipes and doors etc.

Research Assignments

Here are your assignments. Again, we just need prints of these, black and white is fine. Once you approach your subject, get it from all angles. Be creative, get extreme close-ups, from below, look down on it, from ground level, get it all in the frame, get just pieces of it in the frame... take photos of your subject as if you're job is to understand what your taking a photo of.

You know what?

I talked to Mr. Flores about the brochure... sounds wonderful.

I was thinking,,,, we really need to get some high quality diagrams of the bottom floor breezeway... add it to the to-do list!
